Vikings Expected To Pick Up Fifth-Year Options For DT Sharrif Floyd & CB Xavier Rhodes

According to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press, the Vikings will pick up the fifth-year options for DT Sharrif Floyd and CB Xavier Rhodes.

However, Tomasson adds that it would be surprising to see them do the same for WR Cordarrelle Patterson.

The Vikings managed to come away from the 2013 draft with three first-round picks, and now have the option to keep them under team control through 2017.

The fifth-year options for Floyd and Rhodes will run them $6.7M and $8M respective in 2017. However, these figures are guaranteed only for injury and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extensions over the next year.

As for Patterson, his fifth-year option would cost Minnesota $7.9M.

Floyd, 24, was taken with the No. 23 overall pick back in 2013. He’s in the final year of his four-year, $7.671 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $941,300 in 2016.

In 2015, Floyd appeared in 13 games for the Vikings and recorded 34 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a pass defense.

Rhodes, 25, was taken with the No. 25 overall pick in 2013. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $7.402 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $979,523 in 2016.

In 2015, Rhodes appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings and recorded 58 tackles, one interception, and 11 pass defenses.

Patterson, 25, was taken with the No. 29 overall pick during the 2013 NFL draft. He’s in the final year of his our-year, $6.816 million rookie contract and will make a base salary of $1,009,687 for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Patterson appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings, but caught just two passes for 10 yards receiving to go along with two rushes for 15 yards and no touchdowns. He also contributed 1,019 kick return yards and two touchdowns.
