A source close to the situation tells Chris Tomasson that the Vikings will most likely wait until next week to announce their next offensive coordinator.
This comes in contrast to a recent report from CBS Sports, who said that a decision could come as soon as early this week.
The candidates to take over for Pat Shurmur as the Vikings’ coordinator include Darrell Bevell, Kevin Stefanski, Dan Campbell and Sean Ryan.
Former Giants HC Ben McAdoo was also tossed out as someone to watch for the Vikings. However, there has been no reported interest in him from Minnesota since then.
Bevell has the most experience of this group, but Stefanski figures to get strong consideration, given his experience with the team’s offensive turnaround and the work he’s done with their quarterbacks.
Bevell, 48, began his NFL coaching career with the Packers as an assistant quarterbacks coach in 2000. He eventually worked his way up to QBs coach before being hired by the Vikings as their offensive coordinator in 2006.
After five years in Minnesota, Bevell signed on with the Seahawks for the 2011 season and spent the past seven years in Seattle before he was recently fired.
In 2017, the Seahawks’ offense was No. 15 in total yards, No. 11 in points scored, No. 23 in yards rushing and No. 14 in passing offense.
Ryan 45, began his NFL coaching career with the Giants back in 2007 as their offensive quality control coach. He spent nine years in New York in a few positions before he was hired by the Texans as their WRs coach in 2016.
