Vikings & Free Agent CB Captain Munnerlyn Meeting Today Regarding Extension

Free agent CB Captain Munnerlyn mentioned that his agents are meeting with the Vikings at the Combine today regarding a contract extension.

However, Munnerlyn made it clear that he’s looking for a long-term deal and to be well compensated for his position.

“I’m looking for a four- or five-year deal; just somewhere I can finish my career at, and go from there,” Munnerlyn told Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. “I don’t want a one- or two-year deal. I definitely don’t want to do that. I want to get something longer, so I can settle in and see if I want to make (Minnesota) my home.”

“I want the best deal for me and my family, and to be compensated (for) the stuff that I do at my position (of nickelback),” Munnerlyn added. “It’s not an easy position to play. I feel I’m one of the best at it. Last year, I was kind of slowed down by injuries, but I definitely feel like I’m one of the best at my position and I want to be definitely compensated for that.

Munnerlyn, 28, is a former seventh-round pick of the Panthers back in 2009. He spent five years in Carolina before signing a three-year, $11.25 million that included $4.45 million guaranteed with the Vikings back in 2014.

Munnerlyn is now one of the best nickelbacks in this year’s free agent market.

In 2016, Munnerlyn appeared in 15 games for the Vikings and recorded 55 tackles, no interceptions, a forced fumble and three pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 49 cornerback out of 112 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
