Vikings Have No Intentions Of Allowing Joe Webb To Compete For Starting QB Job

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier attempted to squash any talk of a potential quarterback controversy between Joe Webb and Christian Ponder by mentioning that Ponder will be the team’s starter heading into 2012.

If something were to happen to Christian because of injury, we feel like we have a capable backup in Joe,” Frazier said Thursday. “But there’s no competition as to, ‘Joe has to do this to beat out Christian.’ Christian, it’s his job.

Webb has done very well with the limited amount of playing that he’s received in the last few years. So much so that it shouldn’t be out of the question to allow him to compete for the starting quarterback job. Ponder certainly had his moments, but overall was underwhelming in his first year.
