Vikings HC Zimmer “Would Love” To Have QB Matt Cassel Back

New Vikings HC Mike Zimmer has made it clear that he wants QB Matt Cassel back with the team next year.

I would love to have Matt Cassel back, if Matt Cassel wants to be back. Zimmer stated,” per Tom Pelissero. “I don’t know if that will happen.

  • Earlier today, Ian Rapoport reported that the Texans have “real” interest in Cassel.

Cassel, 31, is in position to be one of the best available quarterbacks in the free agent market, and even if he’s unable to secure a starting job, he’s likely to find plenty of interest as a backup.

Minnesota is clearly in need of some help at the quarterback position.  New offensive coordinator Norv Turner will likely look to bring in some competition for Chistian Ponder, whether Cassel returns or not.

Last season, Cassel completed over 60 percent of his passing attempts for 1,807 yards to go along with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

We had him listed as the No. 98 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
