Vikings Hire Former Eagles OC Pat Shurmur

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that the Vikings have hired former Eagles OC Pat Shurmur to join Mike Zimmer’s coaching staff.

  • Ben Goessling reports that Shurmur’s job title has not been clarified, but this hire won’t lead to additional changes on the Vikings’ offensive staff.
  • According to Goessling, it’s possible his role will be something other than running backs coach.

Shurmur recent interviewed with the Vikings, which is interesting considering that the only job opening Minnesota currently have is RBs coach.

The Rams were are interested in former Shurmur for their passing game coordinator, but it appears as though his opportunity was with the Vikings.

Shurmur, 50, has been the Eagles’ offensive coordinator since 2013 and was named interim head coach following the dismissal of Chip Kelly. His one appearance as head coach finished in a 35-30 victory over the Giants.

The Eagles officially released him from his contract on Wednesday.

In 2015, the Eagles offense ranked No. 12 in passing yards, No. 14 in rushing yards, No. 12 in yards-per-game and No. 13 in points-per-game.
