Vikings Hosting DE/OLB Datone Jones For Visit

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Vikings are hosting free agent DE/OLB Datone Jones for a visit on Monday.

This is the first reported interest in Jones since the market opened last week.

Jones, 26, was taken with the No. 26 overall pick back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $7.71 million rookie contract that included a base salary of $1 million for the 2016 season and is now testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career.

Last year, the Packers declined to pick up Jones’ fifth-year option that would have run them $8 million for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Jones appeared in 15 games for the Packers and recorded 22 tackles, one sack, and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 61 edge rusher out of 109 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
