Vikings Keeping Pat Shurmur In Place As Offensive Coordinator

Ben Goessling of ESPN reports that the Vikings are removing the interim tag from Pat Shurmur’s title and making him the team’s permanent offensive coordinator.

The Vikings turned to Shurmur during the season after Norv Turner surprisingly resigned. Shurmur’s prior experience with QB Sam Bradford helped him get promoted but it’s clear that HC Mike Zimmer believes he’s their best solution moving forward.

Shurmur, 51, began his NFL coaching career with the Eagles back in 1999. He spent 10 years in Philadelphia before joining the Rams as their offensive coordinator in 2009.

The Browns later hired him as their head coach but he lasted just two years in Cleveland. Shurmur later returned the Eagles before joining Mike Zimmer’s staff last year.

In 2016, the Vikings were No. 23 points scored, No. 28 in total yards, No. 18 in passing yards and No. 32 in rushing yards.
