Vikings LB Chad Greenway Still Contemplating Retirement, Undecided On Future

Vikings LB Chad Greenway said he is still deciding whether he will continue his playing career or opt for retirement, per Chris Tomasson.

Greenway admitted that he still needs to speak with family and others close to him before coming to a decision.

There were rumors last offseason that Greenway was contemplating retiring before re-signing with the team, so it appears he has been considering ending his playing career for some time now.

Greenway, 34, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2006 and has spent all 10 years of his career in Minnesota. He finished out his five-year, $40.6 million contract that included $20 million guaranteed and re-signed with the Vikings after briefly testing the open market.

The Vikings signed him to a one-year, $2.75 million deal with $750,000 guaranteed back in April of last year and he is set to be an unrestricted free agent.

In 2016, Greenway appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings and recorded 40 total tackles, one interception, and one pass defense. Pro Football Focus graded him as the No. 68 overall linebacker out of 87 qualifying players.

We will provide more information regarding Greenway as the news becomes available.
