Vikings To Meet With DE Everson Griffen’s Reps On Friday

Darren Wolfson of 1500ESPN.com reports that the Vikings are scheduled to meet with impending free agent DE Everson Griffen‘s reps tomorrow to discuss a potential contract extension.

  • Wolfson adds that the Vikings’ meetings schedule is starting to fill up fast as they are also expected to talk to QB Matt Cassel‘s agent as well.

All indications are that the Vikings want to keep Griffen and they do have the cap space to get a new deal done in the coming weeks.

Griffen, 26, figures to be an interesting free agent to watch, as he’s offers youth and upside while playing a premium position. The Vikings could end up allowing DE Jared Allen and DT Kevin Williams to sign elsewhere, which would leave them very thin in regards to their defensive line.

Griffen appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings and totaled 26 tackles, 5.5 sacks and a forced fumble, despite playing less snaps that either Allen or Brian Robison.

We have Griffen listed as the No. 64 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
