Vikings Notes: Mike Zimmer, Kevin Stefanski, John DeFilippo

Mike Zimmer

Vikings owner Zygi Wilf was asked after Sunday’s win over the Dolphins about HC Mike Zimmer’s status and replied “you shouldn’t even ask that question” before offering strong support for the head coach.

“We’re very happy with the coach and the entire coaching staff,” Wilf said, via the Pioneer Press. “It’s great to be in this position in December, that’s for sure. I’m very proud we stepped up and answered any questions about who we were as a team. I think we showed we were one of the best and can beat anyone on any given day.

Kevin Stefanski

  • According to Jason La Canfora, Vikings interim OC Kevin Stefanski was already considered to be a rising coach for possible head-coaching openings before being promoted as John DeFilippo’s replacement last week.
  • La Canfora reports that multiple NFL teams are conducting preliminary research on Stefanski and it’s not out of the realm of possibility that a playoff push could thrust him into a position to interview for head-coaching openings after the season.

John DeFilippo

  • Adam Schefter reports that former Vikings OC John DeFilippo has gone from being a “front-line head-coaching candidate” to no longer being considered for such openings after being fired by Minnesota last week.
  • Schefter says that DeFilippo will now have to settle for an assistant’s job and work his way back up to the level he was viewed as prior to being fired.

  1. Is it any surprise about the Vikings’ offensive coaching woes? Look at the nonsense the GMEN are dealing with in NY under ex-Viking OC Putz Shurmur. With DeFilippo FIRED, now Stefanski is the new WUNDERKIND/QB WHISPERER and don’t forget sought after HEAD COACH. What a joke! Neither Shurmur, DeFilippo or Stefanski are fit to be HEAD COACHES.
As for Mike Zimmer, any HC needing team would be LUCKY to get him. The Jets, Dolphins, Packers and Cowboys could use his services. Just picture the havoc Zimmer and Marinelli would put on opposing offenses with Smith and Vander Esch. Or the Packers finally having a top 5 defense to go with Rodgers and Co. The Jets have the LBs and secondary to Zimmers liking. Jamal Adams would be DPOY within 2 years. The Dolphins are in a division with defensive minded HCs and Zimmer would turn it around quick in Miami. Zimmer would most likely bring in Bridgewater for QB.
I would love it if the GMEN nabbed Zimmer for HC. Zimmer does have Bill Parcell coaching bloodlines.
