Vikings Offer G Mike Harris Two-Year, $3.5M Contract

Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Vikings have offered free agent G Mike Harris a two-year, $3.5 million dollar contract by Minnesota.

Harris mentioned earlier that he’s hoping to have an agreement in place with the Vikings before the start of free agency.

“My agent is working really hard right now, and I’m hoping I can get a deal before Monday,” Harris said. “I see myself in Minnesota for the rest of my career. That’s where I want to be. So hopefully we get the contract ready this weekend. I’m excited. It’s going to be a great season for the Vikings, and I want to be a part of it.”

However, Harris said it is too early to say whether he will accept the deal, but hopes to reach a deal by Monday.

“I know they’re going to offer something, and I’m just hoping that both sides agree and my family and everything is taken care of,” Harris said. “I’m 27 years old, and I want to play out my career in Minnesota, and I’m hoping that the team sees that and pays me what I deserve.”

Harris, 27, originally signed on with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA back in 2012. He lasted just over two years in San Diego before he was waived and later claimed off of waivers by the Vikings.

Minnesota brought Harris back on a one-year restricted contract, which leaves him in position to test the open market as a free agent next week.

In 2015, Harris appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings and was rated by Pro Football Focus rated as the No. 23 guard out of 81 qualifying players.

We have him included in our Top 100 free agents list.
