Adam Schefter reports that the Vikings have officially requested permission to interview Eagles’ QB coach John DeFilippo for their offensive coordinator position.

DeFilippo is clearly an in-demand coach right now and some have said that Minnesota has him atop their list of options for their offensive coordinator job.

However, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported earlier in the day that the Eagles want to make DeFilippo their next offensive coordinator.

Interestingly enough, Florio says that some in league circles believe the Eagles would actually prefer to keep DeFilippo over current offensive coordinator Frank Reich, who has emerged as a serious candidate for the Colts’ head coaching job (NFLTR).

If the Colts were to hire Reich, it would make the transition much easier for Philadelphia and they wouldn’t have to prevent him from interviewing for other offensive coordinator jobs.

The other candidates to take over for Pat Shurmur as the Vikings’ coordinator include Darrell Bevell, Dan Campbell and Sean Ryan.

DeFilippo, 39, began his NFL coaching career with the Giants back in 2005. He spent two years with the Giants before the Raiders hired him as their quarterbacks coach in 2007.

After a brief stint with the Jets, DeFilippo returned to the Raiders and was later hired by the Browns as their offensive coordinator in 2015. Unfortunately, the Browns fired their coaching staff after one season and he later agreed to coach the Eagles quarterbacks last year.

In 2016, the Jets ranked No. 26 in total yards, No. 12 in rushing yards, No. 27 in passing yards and No. 29 in points scored this year.

We’ll have more regarding the Vikings’ offensive coordinator job as the news is available.
