Vikings Pick Up CB Xavier Rhodes’ Fifth-Year Option

The Minnesota Vikings have elected to pick up the fifth-year option on CB Xavier Rhodes, according to his agent, Sunny Shah.

Rhodes’ fifth-year option will run the Vikings $8 million in 2017, but is guaranteed only for injury and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extension over the next year.

Rhodes, 25, was taken with the No. 25 overall pick in 2013. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $7.402 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $979,523 in 2016.

In 2015, Rhodes appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings and recorded 58 tackles, one interception, and 11 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 58 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.
