Vikings Pick Up DT Sharrif Floyd’s Fifth-Year Option

The Minnesota Vikings have elected to pick up their fifth-year option on DT Sharrif Floyd on Monday, according to Ian Rapoport.

The fifth-year option will run the Vikings $6.7 million in 2017, but is guaranteed only for injury and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extension over the next year.

Floyd, 24, was taken with the No. 23 overall pick back in 2013. He’s in the final year of his four-year, $7.671 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $941,300 in 2016.

In 2015, Floyd appeared in 13 games for the Vikings and recorded 34 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 50 interior defensive lineman out of 123 qualifying players.
