Vikings Place DE Hercules Mata’afa On Injured Reserve

The Minnesota Vikings officially placed DE Hercules Mata’afa on injured reserve Wednesday.

The Vikings announced that they waived Mata’afa with an injury designation but a new NFL rule allows a team to not subject certain players to waivers in order to get them on injured reserve.

A few weeks ago, Mata’afa suffered a torn ACL during offseason workouts.

Mata’afa, 22, had reportedly impressed the Vikings’ coaching staff as a pass rusher and some coaches thought he had an inside track to make the team before the injury.

Mata’afa wound up signing on with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Washington State last month.

During his college career at Washington State, Mata’afa recorded 121 tackles, 45.5 tackles for a loss, 21 sacks, three forced fumbles, and two recoveries over the course of 34 games.
