Vikings Place DL Kenrick Ellis & TE Rhett Ellison On PUP List, Add Two To NFI List

The Minnesota Vikings have placed DL Kenrick Ellis and TE Rhett Ellison on the active/PUP list on Friday, according to HC Mike Zimmer.

  • The Vikings also placed QB Taylor Heinicke and G Mike Harris on active/NFI list.

Players placed on the active/PUP list can return to practice once activated. However, if they remain on PUP list to start the regular season, they would miss at least the first six weeks.

Ellis, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Jets back in 2011. He played out his rookie before landing a one-year, $1.475 million contract with the Giants back in March of last year.

However, he wound up being among their roster cuts at the start of last season. The Vikings later signed him to a contract in October and brought him back on a one-year, $810,000 contract.

In 2015, Ellis appeared in nine games for the Vikings and recorded five tackles. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing a total of 89 snaps last year.

Ellison, 27, played out his four-year, $2.4 million rookie contract that included a $300,584 signing bonus. His year, unfortunately, came to an end after he suffered a torn patellar tendon during their Week 15 win over the Packers.

The Vikings re-signed Ellison to a one-year, $2.25 million contract back in March.

In 2015, Ellison appeared in 15 games and caught 11 passes for 124 yards receiving and a touchdown for the Vikings.
