The Minnesota Vikings announced Wednesday that they have placed QB Matt Cassel and G Brandon Fusco on season-ending injured reserve.
Cassel unfortunately suffered several fractured bones in his foot during Week 3’s loss to the New Orleans Saints, which opened the door for first-round pick Teddy Bridgewater to see his first action in an NFL game.
Cassel, 32, signed a two-year, $10 million contract to return to Minnesota back in March. He finishes the season completing 59 percent of his passes for 372 yards, three TDs and four INTs.
Fusco just signed a brand new five year, $24.25 million extension that includes a signing bonus of $4 million, so this is a big loss for their offensive line moving forward.
According to Pro Football Focus, Fusco was the No. 8 guard in the league last year out of 81 qualifying players. He was especially solid as a run-blocker for the Vikings, but still had a positive rating in pass-protection based on PFF’s ratings.
