Vikings Re-Sign CB Terence Newman To One-Year, $3.25M Deal

The Minnesota Vikings announced Wednesday that they’ve re-signed veteran CB Terence Newman.

  • Matt Vensel reports that Newman receives a one-year, $3.25 million contract with $1.5 million guaranteed.

Newman mentioned Tuesday that he had a deal with a team that was considered imminent and expected to make an announcement at some point in the near future.

The Vikings had expressed interest in retaining Newman after a solid 2016 season, so this doesn’t come as a huge surprise.

Newman, 38, is a former first-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2003. He spent nine years in Dallas before joining the Bengals in 2012.

Newman has spent the past two years with the Vikings and just played out his one-year, $3 million contract with the team.

In 2016, Newman appeared in 15 games for the Vikings and recorded 38 tackles, one interception, and eight pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 cornerback out of 112 qualifying players.
