Vikings Re-Signing DT Tom Johnson To A Three-Year, $7M Contract

Tom Pelissero reports that the Vikings are re-signing DT Tom Johnson to a three-year contract worth $7 million.

  • According to Pelissero, Johnson’s agreement also includes around $3 million guaranteed.

Johnson’s agent, Bardia Ghahremani, told Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press las week that his client was looking for a multi-year agreement, so it looks like they did a pretty good job of getting the Vikings to meet their demands.

“Tom knows what he is and the value he brings to the table,’’ Ghahremani said. “We’re not looking for another, ‘Come in for another one-year deal.’ We want to find him a home for the rest of his career, a three- or four-year deal in the right situation and right system… If the Vikings make a fair offer, absolutely I would say the Vikings are his first choice.’’

The Vikings are smart to take care of a solid Johnson interior pass-rusher who probably would have done well on the open market.

Johnson, 30, appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings and recorded 22 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and a forced fumble in 2014. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 23 defensive tackle out of 81 qualifying players.

We have Johnson listed as the No. 89 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
