Vikings Release DL Datone Jones From IR With Settlement

The Minnesota Vikings officially released DL Datone Jones from injured reserve with a settlement on Friday.

Jones, 26, was taken with the No. 26 overall pick back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $7.71 million rookie contract that included a base salary of $1 million for the 2016 season.

Last year, the Packers declined to pick up Jones’ fifth-year option that would have run them $8 million for the 2017 season.

Minnesota signed him to a one-year, $3.75 million deal back in March, making his stint with the Vikings short-lived.

In 2016, Jones appeared in 15 games for the Packers and recorded 22 tackles, one sack, and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 61 edge rusher out of 109 qualifying players.
