Johnson, 30, still had another year remaining on his two-year, $2.5 million contract that he signed with Minnesota back in March of last year.
According to OverTheCap.com, this move frees up $2.5 million in available cap space for the Vikings while creating no dead money.
Pro Football Focus had Johnson rated as the No. 56 guard in the league out of 78 qualifying players.
