Vikings Rookie DE Hercules Mata’afa Suffers Torn ACL

Tony Pauline of DraftAnalyst.com reports that Vikings rookie DE/OLB Hercules Mata’afa suffered a torn ACL during Wednesday’s practice squad.

According to Pauline, Mata’afa suffered the injury during a kickoff draft. Before this, he had reportedly impressed the Vikings’ coaching staff as a pass rusher and some coaches thought he had an inside track to make the team.

The Vikings will likely waive Mata’afa with an injury designation in the coming days before placing him on injured reserve.

Mata’afa wound up signing on with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Washington State last month.

During his college career at Washington State, Mata’afa recorded 121 tackles, 45.5 tackles for a loss, 21 sacks, three forced fumbles, and two recoveries over the course of 34 games.

We’ll have more regarding Mata’afa as the news is available.
