Vikings Sign 12 Futures Deals Including RB Bishop Sankey

The Minnesota Vikings announced that they’ve signed 12 players to future/reserve contracts including:

  1. DT Sterling Bailey
  2. WR Moritz Böhringer
  3. TE Kyle Carter
  4. WR Cayleb Jones
  5. OT Marquis Lucas
  6. CB Tre Roberson
  7. R Bishop Sankey
  8. S Cedric Thompson
  9. OT Austin Shepherd
  10. OT Reid Fragel
  11. P Taylor Symmank
  12. K Marshall Koehn

Future/reserve contracts are essentially an opportunity for players compete for a roster spot in offseason workouts and during training camp.

Fragel, 25, is a former seventh-round pick of the Bengals back in 2013. He lasted just a few months in Cincinnati before later catching on with a number of teams including the Browns, Colts, Falcons, Buccaneers, and Chiefs.

The Buccaneers placed Fragel on their practice squad injured list before waiving him with an injury settlement towards the end of last year. He later signed a future/reserve contract with the Chiefs but was unfortunately cut loose coming out of the preseason.

In 2015, Fragel appeared in just one regular season game.

Sankey, 24, was taken with the No. 54 overall pick in 2014. He was in the third year of his four-year, $3.843 million contract and set to make a base salary of $769,408 in 2016 when he was cut loose coming out of the preseason.

The Patriots later signed him to their practice squad at the start of the season. However, the Chiefs later signed him off of the Patriots’ practice squad but cut him loose back in November.

Sankey signed on to the Vikings’ practice squad soon after.

In 2015, Sankey appeared in 13 games for the Titans and ran for 193 yards on 47 carries (4.1 YPC) to go along with 14 receptions for 139 yards receiving and two total touchdowns.

Thompson, 23, is a former fifth-round pick of the Dolphins in 2015. He was, unfortunately, unable to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason last year, but was added to the Dolphins’ practice squad at the start of the season.

The Patriots would later sign him to their active roster before bringing him back on a future/reserve contract this past January. New England decided to waive Thompson back in August.

He was on and off of the Vikings’ practice squad this season.

Thompson has yet to appear in an NFL game.
