Vikings Sign Three Draft Picks

The Vikings announced that they have signed three of their 10 draft picks on Friday.

According to the release, Minnesota now has fifth round G David Yankey, sixth round CB Kendall James, and seventh round CB Jabari Price signed to four-year contracts.

  • The Vikings also announced that they have signed undrafted free agent G Austin Wentworth and waived G Josh Samuda.

Yankey is the most notable among the group given that there was talk of him possibly being a second-round pick early on in the process, but it appears as though this idea had more to do with the media than actual evaluations from NFL teams.

Yankey was a 1st-Team All-American in 2013 and started 40-of-42 games at Stanford while also seeing time at tackle, so he does offer some versatility, even though it seems almost certain that he will focus strictly on guard in the NFL.

Minnesota needed to improve the level of competition at cornerback, so there is no surprise that they came as with guy like James and Price. They will probably have to focus on special teams for now, but there is opportunity on the Vikings.
