Jason La Canfora reports that the Vikings are, in fact, starting Case Keenum at quarterback for Week 2’s game the Steelers and will rest Sam Bradford‘s injured knee.
Bradford tried to warm up but wasn’t able to do a whole lot, according to reports from the field, so it was clear that the Vikings may have to go with Keenum and Kyle Sloter Sunday.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported earlier in the week that the Vikings had “guarded optimism but concern” about Bradford’s left knee injury that required an MRI this week. Mortensen added that the MRI came back negative for Bradford, but he’s dealing with swelling, pain, and discomfort.
Bradford put together an impressive Week 1 performance against the Saints, so it’s obviously concerning to hear that his knee is giving him trouble. The good news, of course, is that he has managed to avoid any serious issues with his knee.
It’s worth mentioning that Bradford has had two ACL injuries over the course of his NFL career.
Bradford, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Rams back in 2010. He spent four years with the Rams before he was traded to the Eagles in 2015. After Teddy Bridgewater sustained a serious knee injury last year, the Eagles traded him to the Vikings for draft compensation.
Bradford is currently in the final year of his two-year, $36 million contract that included $36 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $13 million for the 2017Â season.
This season, Bradford has appeared in one game and thrown for 346 yards while completing 84.4 percent of his passes to go along with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
