Vikings Waive RB Ben Tate

Update:

Master Tesfatsion reports that former Vikings RB Ben Tate was not claimed off of waivers on Wednesday.

There was some talk that the Cardinals and Colts could place a claim for Tate seeing as they previously tried to acquire him off of waivers after the Texans cut him loose last month.

Tate will now be a free agent and able to sign with a team of his choosing.

The Vikings announced that they have officially waived RB Ben Tate.

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Minnesota Vikings have placed RB Ben Tate on waivers Tuesday.

This is somewhat surprising news given that the Vikings claimed him off of waivers from the Cleveland Browns a little over a month ago.

Although, Tate has been unable to carve out any sort of role in the Vikings’ offense in the past month. Last weekend, Tate didn’t receive a single carry in their Week 16 loss to the Dolphins.

It’s worth mentioning that the Colts and Cardinals both placed waiver claims for Tate, but they were further down in the waiver priority.

Tate, 26, signed a two-year, $6.2 million contract that included $2.5 million guaranteed with Cleveland back in March. However, there are no guarantees included in his contract for the 2015 season.

This season, Tate has ran for 371 yards on 119 carries (3.1 YPC) and four touchdowns over the course of 11 games.
