Vikings Will Meet With QB Matt Cassel Regarding A New Contract Thursday

Vikings GM Rick Spielman mentioned during an interview with KFAN that they will meet with the representatives for QB Matt Cassel sometime today to discuss a new contract, per Ben Goessling.

Cassel exercised his right to void the final year of the contract a few weeks ago and is now set to become an unrestricted free agent next month.

The Vikings have maintained all along that they would like to re-sign Cassel. Although it could require them to ensure that he will be given a shot to compete for the starting job in order to reach an agreement.

Cassel, 31, is in position to be one of the best available quarterbacks available in the free agent market, and even if he’s unable to secure a starting job, he’s likely to find plenty of interest as a backup.

Last season, he completed over 60 percent of his passing attempts for 1,807 yards to go along with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. We have him listed as the No. 98 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
