Vikings WR Michael Floyd Tested Positive For Alcohol While Under House Arrest

Update:

Brian Murphy, the agent for Vikings WR Michael Floyd, released the following statement, via Adam Schefter, regarding the report that he tested positive for alcohol during his house arrest this week.

Michael Floyd started his 96-day home monitoring on March 13, 2017. During this time period, Michael was tested a minimum of six times per day. For the first 90 days, Michael’s blood alcohol content was 0.0 for all of his 500 plus tests.

On June 10, 2017, Michael watched movies at his place of residence until 3:00 a.m. During that time, he drank several bottles of kombucha tea drinks, unaware that the drinks contain alcohol.

On June 11, 2017 at 5:30 a.m., Michael was tested and his blood alcohol content was .055. Michael was tested again at 5:54 a.m. and his blood alcohol content was down to .045. Michael was tested again at 6:23 a.m. and his blood alcohol content was .044. He then went back to sleep and missed a test at 6:33 a.m.

Michael was five days away from the end of his home monitoring. Prior to and after this incident, Michael has not had any alcohol whatsoever since the start of his home monitoring. Unfortunately, the kombucha teas that Michael did drink resulted in a positive blood alcohol content reading. As a result, the Court wishes to hear from Michael on June 26. At that time, Michael will have an opportunity to explain how this unfortunate test result happened.

Vikings WR Michael Floyd tells Brian Murphy of the TMZ report: “Totally false. The whole thing is false. You can’t believe everything TMZ says.

Ian Rapoport mentions that Floyd’s flagged alcohol tests all occurred on June 11 between 5:30 am and 6:35 am and he explained to court officials it was from Kombucha tea.

TMZ Sports is reporting that Vikings WR Michael Floyd tested positive for alcohol during his house arrest this week and it’s possible that he could receive jail time for the violation.

A representative from Scottsdale City Court confirmed that Floyd’s alcohol monitoring system flagged 5 events during June 11th and 12th with at least three of them being described to us as “high alcohol tests.

As part of his house arrest, Floyd is not supposed to consume a single drop of alcohol. He was able to get permission from the court to remove his alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet so that it wouldn’t impact him playing football, but he had to agree to undergo random breath tests.

A court rep tells TMZ that Floyd has blamed the positive tests on Kombucha, which is a fermented tea that contains a very low amount of alcohol. However, TMZ reports that Floyd’s alcohol tests all came back showing a B.A.C. of between .044 and .055, which would be difficult to register if just drinking Kombucha.

If it’s determined by the court that Floyd violated the terms of his house arrest, he could be ordered back to jail.

Floyd, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2012. He played his four-year, $9.972 million contract before the Cardinals elected to pick up his fifth-year option in 2015.

After he was arrested for DUI last year, Arizona elected to cut him loose and he was later claimed off of waivers by the Patriots. The Vikings signed him to a one-year, $1.41 million contract last month.

In 2016, Floyd has appeared in 15 games and caught 37 passes for 488 yards receiving and five touchdowns for the Patriots. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 94 receiver out of 115 qualifying players.
