Vincent Jackson Will Not Be Traded

The deadline for a Vincent Jackson trade has come and gone without Jackson changing teams.

Jackson’s agent Neil Schwartz mentioned that he had worked deals out with three teams but the Chargers demands were to high to get a deal done. Schwartz didn’t pull any punches when discussing the situation.

“We had multiple deals in place,” said Schwartz. “It is our understanding from (other general managers) that the Chargers were unreasonable. More than one general manager referred to A.J. as the ‘Lord of No Rings.'”

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune reports that the Washington Redskins, Seattle Seahawks, St. Louis Rams and Minnesota Vikings were the teams that were involved in the discussions. He also mentioned that the Rams and Seahawks backed out of negotiations because of the Braylon Edwards DUI arrest. Obviously they were reluctant to trade for a player that happens to be serving a suspension for a DUI right as it became a hot topic around the NFL.

Acee goes to say that Jackson and his agents had a deal in place with three different teams; two of which were long-term contracts.

Jackson has said that he would rather sit out than play for the Chargers $377,235 tender that they offered him before the season started.

Here are some text messages that Jason La Canfora received from Vincent Jackson:

“I just don’t understand why (a trade was not completed)…

They obviously think i’m a valuable player by asking for such high trade compensation, but why am i only offered tender salary? …

“My agents and teams interested did everything to make it happen, but this organization stopped it. I just want to play football..

“It feels unethical and I am disappointed.”

All in all, it became clear that the Chargers weren’t willing to budge on their asking price for Jackson. A.J. Smith will have plenty of questions to answer regarding this situation in the coming days.
