Wes Welker Entering His Final Season With The Broncos?

According to Benjamin Hochman of the Denver Post, veteran WR Wes Welker is likely entering his final season with the Broncos.

Hochman mentions that the Broncos may ultimately allow him to sign elsewhere as free agent next season. However, there some serious injury concerns with Welker as well given that he suffered two concussions just last season.

Denver was clearly focused on adding some long-term options at receiver when they signed Emmanuel Sanders in free agency and later drafted Cody Latimer in the second round.

Reporters asked Welker if his mind-set is to win now because 2014 could end up being his last season.

“That’s one way to look at it, for sure,” Welker said. “I don’t really think of it that way, but at the same time, you understand — we have a great opportunity. You don’t want to let it pass by without being at your best and playing at your best.

Welker, 33, is entering the final year of his two-year, $12 million contract that he signed in 2013. He has a base salary of $3 million, but the Broncos have already paid him a $3 million roster bonus.

In his first season with the Broncos, Welker totaled 73 receptions for 778 yards receiving and a career high 10 touchdowns over the course of 13 games.
