Western Michigan CB Sam Beal Petitioning To Enter 2018 Supplemental Draft

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Western Michigan CB Sam Beal is petitioning the NCAA to become eligible for NFL’s supplemental draft next month.

Schefter says that Beal could end up being the highest player selected since Browns used a second-round supplemental pick on WR Josh Gordon in 2012.

If Beal is granted eligibility, he would join Virginia Tech CB Adonis Alexander as players available to be selected in the 2018 supplemental draft.

Beal recorded 92 tackles, two tackles for a loss, two interceptions, 19 pass defenses and a forced fumble over the course of three seasons at Western Michigan and 32 games played.

It’s rare for anyone to be selected in a supplemental draft, but it sounds like both Beal and Alexander would have a shot at being taken this year.

The last player taken in a supplement draft came back in 2015 when the Rams elected to use a fifth-round pick on OT Isaiah Battle. Before that, the Browns used a second-round pick on WR Josh Gordon back in 2012.

We’ll have more regarding Beal and the supplemental draft as the news is available.
