Willis McGahee Taking Over As Denver’s Starting RB?

During the very brief offseason, the Denver Broncos chose to bring in Willis McGahee to pair with Knowshon Moreno. Since then Moreno has been hampered with a hamstring injury while McGahee has seen his playing time dramatically increase as a result of the Moreno’s injury.

Rumors have begun to circulate that McGahee could take over as the teams No. 1 running back but as Mike Klis of the Denver Post writes, the idea might be a little premature.

Fox says he goes with the hot hand,” Klis writes. “Currently, McGahee is hotter. With Moreno coming off a hamstring strain — he will be questionable leaning toward hopeful of playing against the Titans — it would be wise to limit his carries in the first game back.

In the NFL opportunity can lead to plenty of roster moves that may not have been expected. Look at how the Jets backfield played out last season. McGahee’s yards per carry isn’t all that good and he’s yet to break a run for more yards than 12 so he’s not exactly running away with the job.  Depending on how well he plays this weekend, McGahee could find himself cutting into Moreno’s carries even when healthy.
