Derek Carr’s Has A Bruised Thumb, Could Play In Week 2

Update:

According to Chris Mortensen, the Raiders are now “encouraged” by the MRI results on QB Derek Carr‘s injured hand, and have informed Christian Ponder that he will not be signed unless there’s setback.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that the Raiders feel like there’s a “good chance” Carr could play in Week 2.

———-

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is reporting that Raiders QB Derek Carr‘s suffered a bruised thumb during Week 1’s loss to the Bengals.

This is, of course, good news for the Raiders and Carr, seeing as X-rays came back negative on his hand injury.

Oakland is still awaiting the MRI results, according to Rapoport, and his Week 2 status will depend on whether the swelling goes down on his hand.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported Carr is expected to miss Week 2, but it sounds like there’s at least a chance he could be back on Sunday.

Mortensen added that Oakland has reached out to veteran QB Christian Ponder, who was cut loose a little over a week ago.

The Raiders’ offense really struggled without Carr under center, so hopefully he’ll be able to return at some point in the near future.

We’ll have more updates regarding Carr’s status for Week 2 as the new is available.
