Patriots Interested In Re-Signing DT Akiem Hicks, Could Still Test Open Market

Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal reports that the Patriots have shown interest in re-signing DT Akiem Hicks.

The Patriots reportedly liked what they saw from Hicks after they acquired him in a trade with the Saints.

While they’d like to bring him back, Daniels admits that Hicks could still test the open market in the coming weeks. This probably isn’t a surprise, considering that a number of people view Hicks as the Patriots most notable free agent.

Hicks, 26, was traded to the Patriots in return for TE Michael Hoomanawanui back in September of last year. He played out his contract and is now in line to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming weeks.

In 2015, Hicks appeared in all 16 games for the Saints and Patriots and recorded 23 tackles, three sacks, and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 42 interior defensive lineman out of 123 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2016 Free Agents list.
