Chargers Signing CB Casey Hayward To Three-Year, $36M Extension

Ian Rapoport reports that the Chargers are signing CB Casey Hayward to a three-year, 36 million extension with $20 million fully guaranteed at signing.

This is a well-deserved contract for Hayward, who has broken out in a big way since joining the Chargers a few years ago.

Hayward, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Packers back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract in Green Bay before signing a three-year, $15.3 million contract. The deal contains $6.8 million guaranteed with the Chargers in 2016.

Hayward was entering the final year of his contract and set to make a base salary of just $3.25 million for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Hayward appeared in all 16 games for the Chargers and recorded 40 tackles, four interceptions, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and 22 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 1 cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.
