Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Lions are signing RBย LeGarrette Blount to a one-yearย deal worth $4.5 million.
The Lions had been actively looking for running back help the past few weeks, which included meeting with RB Frank Gore,ย DeMarco Murray and Jonathan Stewart. However, Blount ultimatelyย got the job, even though there was some talk that they were close to a deal with Gore.
Blount, 31,ย originally signed on with the Titans as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon back in 2010. He was unable to make the Titans’ 53-man roster during his rookie season but was later claimed off of waivers by the Buccaneers.
Tampa Bay elected to trade Blount to the Patriots in return for Jeff Demps and a late-round pick after three years.ย Blount had a brief stint with the Steelers before he was cut loose during the 2013 season and later re-signed by the Patriots.
Last year, the Eagles signed Blount to a one-year contract.
In 2017, Blount appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles and rushed for 766 yards on 173 carries (4.4 YPC) to go along with eight receptions for 50 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 41 running back out of 58 qualifying players.
We had him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
