Buccaneers Re-Signing DE William Gholston To Five-Year, $27M Deal

Adam Caplan of ESPN is reporting that the Buccaneers and DE William Gholston have agreed to terms on a new contract.

  • According to Caplan, Gholston receives a five-year deal worth a maximum of $37 million and includes $13.5 million guaranteed.
  • Mike Garafolo reports that the base value of Gholston’s contract is $27 million with another $9 million available in incentives.

There had been some talk that Tampa Bay was looking to re-sign Gholston before the start of free agency, and it appears as though they’ve managed to do just that.

Gholston, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2013. He played out his four-year, $2,560,544 contract and was set to test the open market for the first time as an unrestricted free agent.

In 2016, Gholston appeared in 14 games for the Buccaneers and recorded 50 tackles, 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a recovery. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 90 edge defender out of 109 qualifying players.
