Contract Extensions Are In the Cards For Gary Kubiak and Rick Smith

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle tweets that Texans owner Bob McNair plans on negotiating contract extensions for HC Gary Kubiak and GM Rick Smith.

Both coach and general manager are currently on contracts that last through the end of the 2012 season.  While there is reportedly no timetable for the negotiations, Kubiak will be addressed before Smith.

Kubiak and Smith are the second coach and general manager respectively in the Texans young history.  Coming off a season where the Texans made their first playoff appearance, despite a plethora of injuries, the Texans are now clear favorites in a weakened division.  Kubiak’s extension in particular should be completed before the start of training camp.
