Eagles Signing WR Markus Wheaton To One-Year Contract

Zach Berman reports that the Eagles are signing veteran WR Markus Wheaton to a one-year contract.

Thie Seahawks brought in Wheaton for a visit shortly after he was released from the Bears back in March, but was never signed to a contract. The Eagles were the second reported team to show interest in him.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Wheaton to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

Wheaton, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Steelers back in 2013. He played out the final year of his rookie contract with the Steelers when he signed a two-year, $11 million deal that included $6 million guaranteed with the Bears last offseason.

He was set to earn $5 million in the final year of his agreement for 2018 when the Bears cut him loose.

In 2017, Wheaton appeared in 11 games for the Bears and caught three passes for 51 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
