Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Jaguars are signing former Browns LB Joe Schobert to a five-year, $53.75million deal.
Schobert receives $10.75 million per year, $12 million to sign and $22.5 million guaranteed, according to Rapoport.
The Jaguars had been undergoing cost-cutting measures this offseason, but it appears as though they identified Schobert as a core player to build their defense around.
This is a pretty strong deal for Schobert, who was one of the top inside linebackers in this year’s draft class.
Schobert, 26, was a fourth-round pick by the Browns out of Wisconsin back in 2016. He just finished out his four-year, $2.97 million rookie contract that included a $633,956 signing bonus.
Schobert is now in line to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career.
In 2019, Schobert appeared in all 16 games for the Browns and recorded 133 tackles, two sacks, and four interceptions, 13 pass defenses and forced two fumbles.
We had him included in our Top 100 Available 2020 Free Agents list.
