Jets Open To Re-Signing CB Morris Claiborne

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan has said he’s open to bringing back CB Morris Claiborne, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

Cimini adds if Maccagnan doesn’t make that move by May 7, he runs the risk of losing Claiborne to another team. After that date, teams can sign free agents without having them count against the formula for compensatory draft picks.

However, Cimini mentions Claiborne is rehabbing an undisclosed injury, which could be affecting his current market. Claiborne has visited with the Giants and Cardinals so far this offseason.

Currently, CB Darryl Roberts is slated to be the Jets’ No. 2 corner. The Jets didn’t take a cornerback until the sixth round, selecting CB Blessuan Austin out of Rutgers.

Claiborne, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract with Dallas before returning to the team on a one-year, $3 million for the 2016 season.

Last year, Claiborne departed for a one-year contract worth $5 million with the Jets and re-signed with New York to another one-year, $7 million deal last year.

In 2018, Claiborne appeared in 15 and recorded 57 total tackles, two interceptions, 14 pass defenses, and scored one defensive touchdown.
