Raiders HC Jon Gruden said Monday that he would like to re-sign veteran RB Doug Martin next year.
โHopefully we can keep him around here,โ Gruden said, via NBC Bay Area. โHeโs a heck of a football player.โ
โHeโs a good back. I think Iโll say it again and again, heโs a very good player,โ Gruden added. โHeโs been a great player in this league. Heโs running it. Heโs catching it. He picked up some blitz that were flushed. We did a lot of good things on the film that I look at. Weโre proud of what we did against a very good defense. We thought Doug Martin played extremely well.”
Martin and Marshawn Lynch are both in position to be unrestricted free agent next year, so it will be interesting to see what they elect to do in terms of their backfield.
Martin, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2012. He was third in the first year of his five-year, $35.75 million contract when the Buccaneers released him during the offseason.
Martin later signed a one-year contract with the Raiders and will be an unrestricted free agent in 2019.
In 2018, Martin has appeared in 11 games for the Raiders and rushed for 384 yards on 87 carries (4.4 YPC) to go along with 14 receptions for 100 yards receiving and one touchdown.
