Jon Gruden Interested In Re-Signing RB Doug Martin

Raiders HC Jon Gruden said Monday that he would like to re-sign veteran RB Doug Martin next year.

“Hopefully we can keep him around here,” Gruden said, via NBC Bay Area. “He’s a heck of a football player.

“He’s a good back. I think I’ll say it again and again, he’s a very good player,” Gruden added. “He’s been a great player in this league. He’s running it. He’s catching it. He picked up some blitz that were flushed. We did a lot of good things on the film that I look at. We’re proud of what we did against a very good defense. We thought Doug Martin played extremely well.”

Martin and Marshawn Lynch are both in position to be unrestricted free agent next year, so it will be interesting to see what they elect to do in terms of their backfield.

Martin, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2012. He was third in the first year of his five-year, $35.75 million contract when the Buccaneers released him during the offseason.

Martin later signed a one-year contract with the Raiders and will be an unrestricted free agent in 2019.

In 2018, Martin has appeared in 11 games for the Raiders and rushed for 384 yards on 87 carries (4.4 YPC) to go along with 14 receptions for 100 yards receiving and one touchdown.
