Lions Signing DT Danny Shelton For Two Years, $8M

According to Adam Schefter, the Lions are signing former Patriots DT Danny Shelton to a two-year, $8 million deal.

Shelton rejuvenated his career in New England the last couple of years and gets to join a similar system in Detroit.

For the Lions, Shelton also fills a major need on the interior of their defensive line.

Shelton, 26, is a former first-round pick out of Washington by the Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Patriots acquired Shelton and a 2018 fifth-round pick from the Browns in exchange for a third-round pick in 2019 in 2018.

Shelton played out the final year of his four-year $11.703 million rookie contract that included a $6.771 million signing bonus and made a base salary of $2,030,955 in 2018. New England declined his fifth-year option, but ultimately ended up bringing him back on a one-year deal for 2019.

In 2019, Shelton appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots and recorded 61 tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 39 interior defensive lineman out of 114 qualifying players.
