NFL Notes: 49ers, Bears, Broncos, Eagles, & Patriots

  • Sources tell Matt Miller of Bleacher Report that there are 49ers’ players who want backup QB Colin Kaepernick to start over Blaine Gabbert.
  • Miller notes that HC Chip Kelly has shown support for Gabbert, but that “it may not be long” until a change is made under center in favor of Kaepernick.

Bears HC John Fox implied Monday during his press conference that Brian Hoyer could keep the team’s starting job regardless of Jay Cutler’s health.

“Anybody’s that performing well, I don’t think we’re going to be likely to change,” Fox said, per Chris Emma.

  • Fox added that says that Cutler is “day-to-day” with a sprained thumb.

  • Eagles TE Zach Ertz says that the MRI on his ribs was clear and he will practice Monday with the intent to play on Sunday against the Lions. (Reuben Frank)

  • According to Ian Rapoport, Patriots LB Rob Ninkovich, who is back from suspension this week, is healthy enough to play coming off of his triceps injury and could see action against the Browns, Sunday.
