Nick Mangold Signing One-Day Contract To Retire With Jets

Veteran C Nick Mangold announced Tuesday that he will sign a one-day contract to retire as a member of the New York Jets.

Mangold said his foot injury never healed last year, which is why he didn’t sign with a team for the 2017 season.

The Ravens brought Mangold in for a visit last April, but obviously never signed him to a contract.

Mangold, 34, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2006. He was entering the final year of his eight-year, $57.4 million contract that included $25 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $6.075 million when the Jets cut him loose last offseason.

In 2016, Mangold appeared in eight games for the Jets and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 25 center out of 38 qualifying players.
