Rams Open To Re-Signing S Quintin Mikell

Update:

Rams head coach Jeff Fisher mentioned on Wednesday that they’re still open to the idea of re-signing S Quintin Mikell at some point in the coming weeks, per Jim Thomas.

Safeties Mikell and Craig Dahl were both cap casualties a little over a week ago. Dahl has since signed with the 49ers, but St Louis is left with major needs at both safety positions.

Mikell, 32, was actually very solid for the Rams last season.  He actually graded out as the No. 5 best safety in the league, according to Pro Football Focus, but hasn’t drawn a lot of interest since being released.

There’s a good chance the Rams could re-sign him for a reasonable price. We have Mikell listed as the No. 39 player in our recently updated Top 50 Free Agents list.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Rams will release S Quintin Mikell on Monday.

Mikell, 32, signed a four-year deal worth $27 million that contains $14 million guaranteed back in 2011. He had base salaries of $6 million and $7 million coming his way in the next two seasons.

St Louis will have an additional $3 million in cap space following this transaction.

The Rams were looking for an upgrade at the backend of their defense when they brought Mikell in.
