Signing Veteran C Jonathan Goodwin Still An Option For The Saints

According to Mike Triplett of ESPN.com, there is still a chance that the Saints could sign veteran C Jonathan Goodwin to a contract before the start of training camp.

However, Triplett adds that this could depend on what happens during the draft as there have been some rumors that New Orleans could be targeting one of the top center prospects.

The idea was recently floated that the Saints could consider drafting USC C Marcus Martin as early as No. 27 overall. Triplett believes the the Saints “wouldn’t hesitate” to draft a center in round one if he happens to be the best available player on their draft board.

Another prospect who could be on the Saints’ radar is Colorado State’s Weston Richburg who could be available to them in the second round.

Goodwin, 35, recently worked out for New Orleans, but there hasn’t been any buzz surrounding him since this was first reported a few weeks ago.

Last year, Goodwin was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 15 center in the league, which was largely due to his above-average run-blocking ability.

We have Goodwin rated No. 20 in our Top Available Free Agents List.
