Teams Have Serious Concerns About Signing WR Dwayne Bowe?

Peter King of Sports Illustrated spoke with an anonymous NFL scout who told him that he’s “scared to death” of signing impending free agent WR Dwayne Bowe.

I am scared to death of [Kansas City wideout] Dwayne Bowe. Like him a lot, but not sure what we’d be buying if we signed him. Too much baggage,” said the NFL scout.

Has been a bit of problem at times for the Chiefs, but more so during his first few seasons in the league. Others have suggested that Bowe’s improved behavior could be the result him being in a contract year, but that’s purely a speculative suggestion.

Bowe, 28, is one of the best available players in this year’s free agent market and is in a great position to secure a very solid long-term contract, assuming of course that not every team is as concerned as the anonymous NFL scout that King spoke with.

There’s been some talk that the Chiefs could use their franchise tag on Bowe, which is still a possibility. Kansas City would have a huge hole to fill if they were to lose Bowe during free agency. There stands a decent chance that they could receive a third-round compensatory pick in return for him if he does in fact sign elsewhere, but they would either have to find a replacement during the offseason or hope that Jonathan Baldwin lives up to his first-round draft status.

We have Bowe currently listed as the No. 4 free agent best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
