Washington Turned Down 2020 1st-Rd Pick From Patriots For LT Trent Williams?

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the report of the Redskins turning down a 2020 first-round pick from the Patriots for LT Trent Williams is “unequivocally not true.”

NBC Sports’ JP Finlay says the supposed offer was made a few weeks ago and the Patriots are no longer pursuing Williams. It’s believed the Redskins want a first and second-round pick to move on from Williams.

According to reports from JP Finlay and Kevin Sheehan, the Redskins turned down a 2020 first-round pick offered by the Patriots for LT Trent Williams. 

The two report Washington told New England the offer wasn’t enough to part with the 31-year-old Williams. The Patriots were one of three teams reportedly inquiring about Williams in trade discussions.

However, the Redskins have told multiple teams this summer that they are not trading Williams, despite the fact that he’s holding out of training camp. Meanwhile, those in Williams camp have said: He’s not coming back. Period.”

Williams requested either a trade or release earlier this offseason and has reportedly vowed not to play for Washington in 2019. 

Williams, 30, is a former first-round pick of the Redskins back in 2010. He currently in the fourth year of his five-year, $66 million contract that includes $43.25 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $11 million and $12.5 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Williams started 13 games for the Redskins.  Pro Football Focus rated Williams as the No. 21 tackle out of 80 qualifying players.
